Vices

This morning as I was relaxing in my tub, I got to thinking about how people tend to use vices to fill holes in their emotional cup, and how no matter hard we all try, those holes are always there and the energy and substance continue ooze out because the holes don't get repaired. Some have huge holes and others small ones. Until we take responsibility to find the correct substance and do the work to make our own cup whole and able to hold the good we put into it, the vices we use keep pouring out along with the much good we could be enjoying while also corroding our inner lining, making a mess of our lives. There are various vices....Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, overeating, wrong diet, TV, computer use, hatred, self indulgence in various activities such as pornography, sexual activity, gambling and other gaming, shopping and being 'fashion forward', so called beauty enhancements, etc. We see this cycle daily in the media. My personal feeling is that until people are able to get back to basic values and morals that use to be taught and lived by, the world is going to continue to pour out a huge mess from all the individual cups that have gone without repair. Society is walking through the filth of the unkempt. Those who sit back and expect someone to come rescue them from the holes they have allowed to drain them of the substance they need will forever continue to try and fill their cups to no avail. Responsibility begins with the individual. No one can help another until they are willing to help themselves. But when the individual makes the effort to change, then others should be, and are usually willing to do what they can to be a support. We all have the power within us to make changes and do our part to better ourselves and the world. The question is...do we have the true desire to do so. It would be wonderful if instead of individual cups leaking from holes in need of repair, they instead overflowed with goodness and wholesomeness.
